Miami Today is reporting that Miami and the beaches saw a record number of local visitors in 2007. According to the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors bureau, 12 million people visited Miami-Dade county in 2007 and spent $17.1 billion. Last year’s increase in visitors and dollars spent continues the Miami area tourism winning streak: a steady increase every year since the post-9/11 drop in 2001.

Here are some of the stats:

  • Domestic visitors: 54%
  • Foreign visitors: 46%
  • 3.5 million from Latin America
  • 1.3 million from Europe
  • 556,000 from Canada

There was an increase in visitors from Canada and Europe due to the decline in value of the US Dollar and Miami is taking the major share of foreign visitors in Florida.

Another very interesting trend:? 83% of Miami-Dade tourists were repeat visitors!
